Together with our partner ubirch, we developed a blockchain demonstrator for an international enterprise, uncovering the capabilities of blockchain solutions in industrial 5G-integrated supply chains. This demonstrator was shown at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona for the first time!

Measurements are cryptographically signed on the sensor level, transmitted via an industrial 5G network, and then securely written into a blockchain. The demonstrator integrates the process between a First Tier Manufacturer, two logistics providers, and an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in a supply chain. Parts are represented as small, wooden blocks that are visually identified by sensors supplied by our partner Cognex.

The use of blockchain in the logistics industry allows for direct verification of each manufacturing and processing step in the supply chain. This deployment leads to optimized decision-making for managers and results in both increased transpracency and validity of manufacturing processes.

If, for example, a manufactured part is damaged somewhere along the supply chain, decision-makers can now determine the party liable, as well as the exact time of damage. This ultimately transforms manufacturing and makes logistics even more secure.
